Forests & Forestry

· Historical Logging on Navarino

The Navarino Wildlife Area has over to 7,000 acres of forest habitat, which is divided into eleven forestry compartments for management practices.  Timber management practices are geared for aspen and brush species, oak and pine regeneration, and northern hardwoods, such as maples, beech, and hemlock.

Forests provide the perfect outdoor lab setting for studying the layers of the forest; decomposers, Wisconsin Forest management practices, and skills foresters use to measure trees.  Programs for both school groups and the general public help to increase knowledge about Wisconsin forests and forestry.

NNC works with the DNR to provide assistance to  landowners, the general public, about upcoming forest issues and by working with the Wisconsin Woodland Owners Association (WWOA).
